Born and raised in Melbourne, Sophie’s appreciation of art and design began at a young age.  As the daughter of a master builder, self-trained in classical architecture and studio arts teacher, Sophie’s design training began innately. Countless days were spent visiting construction sites, museums, and ruins. Creating, in any shape or form, was encouraged and at the centre of daily life.

Growing up it was evident Sophie had an acute eye for detail as she excelled in all creative pursuits. Upon completing a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, she moved to London to study an honours degree of Interior Architecture from Inchbald School of Design. Here she developed a deep appreciation for heritage buildings and the life that could be restored to these historical spaces.

Sophie worked in Chelsea for Helen Green Design before moving to Sydney, where she worked for several years for internationally acclaimed Thomas Hamel & Associates and Tamsin Johnson consecutively.

I feel a need to create and enjoy helping others. I look to the past and design for the future. I love raw materials, classical detailing, and subtle luxuries. I love contrasts. The sophisticated with the relaxed, the old with the new, dark with light. I want to create special spaces that are warm, welcoming and emotive.

Sophie Davies is an Australian Interior Architect based in Sydney. She established her design practise in 2019.
